Raspberry

This is a very specific aroma well known by all who have eaten this fruit. It is reminiscent of candy and berry jams. Nevertheless, surprisingly few are able to identify it in a blind smell test.

The presence of this aroma is due to the wine’s grape variety and to the fermentation process, not to the wine's age.

It is more common in young wines, but, nonetheless, it is one of the most common Red Wine aromas and it can be found in many varieties from different areas of the world. It is particularly recognizable in wines made from Pinot Noir grapes and Zinfandel grapes.
