Hazelnut

The Hazelnut aroma is a smell that many are familiar with, but it is difficult to correctly identify in a blind test straight away.

It is an aroma that we encounter in many different types of foods, from high-quality chocolate to wine that gas been aged.

The scent of hazelnut, and nuts in general, can be detected in different types of cocoa, from Peruvian cocoas to the true "Trinitario" of Trinidad, and Bolivian Nacional. It is a delicate scent that is perceived once the chocolate is in the mouth by way of retronasal olfactory perception.

In wine, hazelnut is a scent which goes hand in hand with the aging process. In particular, it can be detected as a delicate note in a red wine that has been aged in oak barrels.
